The SEE2 outputs a sharp signal at a variety of standard VGA resolutions, from 800 by 600 to 1024x768 at 8, 16, and 32 bit color. How well does a USB 2.0 port send out a high resolution VGA signal, and how does it compare to a standard 15-pin VGA or DVI port? The answer, not quite as good. So the unit looks great and installs even better, so obviously performance is the biggest issue. It's very seamless and works identically to actual VGA adapters, at least when it comes to operating within the Windows interface. When the device is active, it acts exactly as other dual VGA outputs do - it utilizes the standard Windows XP Display Properties tab where users can adjust how the desktop will spread across the second screen. A full installation puts a Tritton logo in the system tray which will enable/disable the SEE2 and alter its available resolutions, as well as change things like swapping the output as the primary or secondary display.

Putting the cart before the horse - er, plugging it in without the drivers - got the installation confused, but a quick reboot later everything went in properly. Installation was a breeze, though software had to be installed before it's plugged in. It's self-powered, and even emits a nice blue glow via an LED on the inside of the smoky black shell when the system's powered-up. The SEE2 isn't much bigger that a two-button mouse, and plugs directly into a USB 2.0 port. I had to give this sucker a whirl - one monitor may be functional, but the added real estate of a second screen is so freakin' handy.Īt the very least, the device comes in an extraordinarily sleek and classy form.
A few weeks after this desktop-to-laptop move, Tritton revealed its SEE2 adapter, a USB 2.0-to-VGA adapter that would enable non-dual output systems, like laptops, have the expansive dual monitor display…something that I had taken for granted for many years.
